Responsibilities

The function of the Public Works Department is to provide overall coordination and direction to five separate but cooperating divisions (Engineering, Roads & Bridges, Sanitation, Storm Water, and Clean & Beautiful), and to interact appropriately with various other state, federal, and local agencies.

This Department is responsible for all facets of Road Maintenance and Construction, Engineering and Design, Plan Review and Project Inspection, Solid Waste Collection, and Recycling.

Road Closures & Current Projects

CLARENCE ODUM ROAD: Clarence Odum Road between John Stowe Road & Dry Pond Road will be closed beginning May 9, 2020, until further notice for a bridge replacement project.

CRISWELL ROAD: Criswell Road @ Monroe Jersey Rd is closed due to road undermining and will remain closed until further notice for a culvert replacement project.

DEWEY HOGAN ROAD: Dewey Hogan Road between Double Springs Road & James Powers Road will be closed beginning June 21, 2020, until further notice for a bridge replacement project.

OLD ZION CEMETERY ROAD: Due to a culvert replacement project, Old Zion Cemetery Road between Rockmore Road and Bay Creek Church Road will be closed tentatively beginning Monday, September 14, 2020, and will remain closed until the completion of the project.

TRAFFIC MOVEMENT CHANGE:

ROCKMORE ROAD: Tentatively beginning Monday, September 14, 2020, Rockmore Road will have one-way access only between Bay Creek Church Road to Old Zion Cemetery to accommodate residential and school traffic during the duration of the culvert project.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, but know that we are working as quickly and as diligently as possible to make repairs.

We will make updates throughout the process to keep everyone informed of repair notices and when the roads will reopen.

We appreciate your patience as we work to repair the roads and make them safe to travel.

Keep in mind that there will be traffic delays in these areas. Please drive carefully for your safety and the safety of our crews.
